Cellarmaster's News

Tomfoolery 'Son of a Gun' Cabernet/Shiraz 2011, Barossa Valley, SA - $24.00 a bottle

The honest, down to earth approach of winemaking of the Tomfoolery boys has to be admired. It’s a partnership that works really well, two good mates from the Barossa who cut their teeth at wineries like Rockford and Langmeil seizing the opportunity to do something on their own. This classic Australian blend of Cabernet and Shiraz displays cassis, blueberry and cedary spice before a palate of plum and licorice. An unashamed food style that works so well, due to its tannin and acid structure.

Cirillo Single Vineyard Shiraz 2009, Barossa Valley, SA - $26.00 a bottle

This single vineyard shiraz is made with grapes sourced from high altitude vines from the Steingarten region on the border of the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley in South Australia. Made using open top fermenters, wild yeasts, basket pressed and aged in seasoned French and American oak for 12 months. The wine shows earthy spice driven aroma's, with hints of berry fruit. The palate is soft and delicate, typical of Shiraz from this region, it has good mid palate weight and displays rich raspberries, black cherries, violets and white pepper spice on a long finish. A great wine to have with food now or can be celarred for at least a decade if not longer.
