Rowing Mentoring Initiative
The development of a structured
mentoring program facilitated by Tattersall’s Club and Rowing Queensland
is designed to continue to foster our city’s leaders for many years
to come.
Mr Christian Renford, Chief Executive Officer with Rowing Queensland Inc.
says
the pilot program will provide a framework that supports young Queensland
rowers in understanding and accessing mentoring relationships as one avenue
for developing professionally in life after sport.
“As such, Rowing Queensland and Tattersall’s Club will act
as a resource in supporting elite athletes that want that support. This
program seeks to assist young rowers to identify areas of professional
(vocational and athletic) and personal development.
“A traditional form of one-on-one mentoring relationship has been
developed to be mutually enjoyable, between a pair of people who are willing
to put time into this pilot program,”
The objectives of the mentoring program for the mentor might include:
• The mentor would provide a clear understanding of what the candidate
needs to know in this regard.
• Environment for their career stream-how the community of accountants
for example operate, gather, network etc.
• The mentor would illustrate the career structure and milestones
one should aspire to and what are the pitfalls to manage along the way-high
risk and high reward opportunities.
• The mentor would provide the opportunity and advice to enhance
skills learned in rowing careers in a vocational capacity and promote
opportunities for life after sport.
The objectives of the mentoring program for the candidate might include:
• The candidate would be able to seek advice and take counsel from
an experienced 'operator' within their future vocation.
• The candidate would develop a personal relationship that might
assist in future years.
This program is part of the support the Club is providing Rowing Queensland.
